Asphalt or concrete removal begins with on-site excavation of the subgrade. The existing material is then replaced with proper base materials that meet all current industry standards. It is essential for the subgrade to shaped and leveled accurately, as imperfections below could translate into unwanted variations on the surface above once finished. Proper drainage is also factored into the leveling process before the subgrade is compacted. The final step involves the application of a new asphalt pad which is rolled to a flawless conclusion, both aesthetically and functionally.
If an existing, paved asphalt surface requires rehabilitation, a common method is to apply what is called an ‘overlay’, in essence a fresh layer of asphalt over an existing surface. Generally less expensive than complete replacement, this technique may be slightly less durable but can last for many years with proper care. This bituminous makeover involves cleaning the existing pavement, formatting the edges of the space and repairing any major fissures, voids or damage. Once the new layer of asphalt is applied, the end result looks no different than a brand new job, and will prevent further deterioration of the original condition.
